Last Sunday, I met up with Rosemary & Andrew for their pre wedding photos in the beautiful Derbyshire village of Baslow. They are to be married in a few weeks in Bakewell followed by a reception in Baslow.

Zoe and Andrew were married recently at the Holiday Inn, Manvers near Rotherham in a civil ceremony. I have photographed weddings here previously and despite being a modern hotel with no gardens, it is actually a great location for wedding photography, as the reception area is very light, with diffused light coming through full length windows to the front and side. This makes for a bright, modern look to wedding pictures.......

Stacey & Tom are a delightful couple and I am honoured to be their wedding photographer in a few weeks at Mosborough Hall in Sheffield. We met up last week for a pre wedding photo shoot, a sort of practice session for the big event!

Tamworth in Staffordshire was the location for Tina & Paul's spring wedding a couple of weeks ago. They were married in the Castle Hotel, which spookily is right next to the stunning, medieval Tamworth Castle and gardens, ideal for wedding pictures! And the sun came out to play as well!

I often get asked the question "what equipment do you use?". This is one of the best questions you can ask a wedding photographer....after all, a master craftsman will have a well cared for, high quality set of tools with which to perform a high quality job!

When choosing a wedding photographer, it really doesn't matter which camera manufacturer is favoured, whether it be Nikon, Canon or Sony, all are equally as fit for the purpose. You should make sure that your photographer is using professional cameras (preferably two) which have excellent low light capability and top quality lenses.....these are the most important part of a camera. Both Canon and Nikon have a professional range of lenses, I happen to be a Nikon man!

The picture above shows part of my wedding photography kit. These are the main elements I will bring with me to the majority of weddings.

Nikon 28-70 f2.8 standard zoom lens (general purpose, sharp lens)

Nikon 70-200 f2.8 telephoto zoom lens (ultra sharp telephoto lens)

Nikon 17-35 f2.8 wide zoom lens (very wide angle, very sharp)

Nikon 50mm f1.4 fast standard lens (ideal for low light)

Nikon Micro Nikkor 55mm f2.8 macro lens (close up lens for detail pictures)

Three flashguns

I am also adding a 15mm Fisheye lens, for ultra wide angle, spectacular shots!

In addition to the above kit, I also use a portable studio lighting kit including light stands, umbrellas and soft boxes, a video light, tripod, monopod and various clamps for attaching flashguns, all contained in several padded bags!

The one thing to remember above all else though, is that it doesn't matter how much equipment a photographer may have, or whether he has the very latest gizmo or gadget, without an eye for a picture and a degree of talent, your wedding pictures might as well be taken on a camera phone! By all means check the equipment, but before you book your wedding photographer, check out several previous weddings and make sure you get on well with your photographer. A bright, outgoing personality can be just as powerful as the latest, greatest camera!

It's a busy time for me at Red Snapper Photography, with the wedding season well under way, and loads more weddings fast approaching. I always meet up with the couple before the wedding for an informal pre wedding photo shoot. This puts the couple at ease and gives them a good idea of how to pose and what to expect on the big day!

Here are a few shots from Gemma & Ian's pre wedding photo shoot on Sunday. They are to be married in just three weeks at Ribby Hall! Can't wait to be back there again, lovely wedding venue.

Aston Hall near Sheffield was the venue for Sarah & Natalie's pre wedding photo shoot last week. They will be tying the knot there in a few weeks time and we will be there to capture the whole day & evening.....

Last weekend I met up with Caroline & Jonathan, who's wedding I will be photographing in a few weeks time. The botanical gardens in Sheffield are a beautiful place for wedding photographs, with wide open spaces as well as the spectacular refurbished glass houses.

Once I've finished processing a wedding, I create a web gallery for the bride & groom to view their wedding pictures, and for them to share the pictures with friends & family. If you want to log into a particular wedding, just as the bride or groom for the login details.

Once in the gallery, you can buy individual prints by simply clicking on the orange "buy" button in the top right of the screen. You can pay by paypal or a credit or debit card.

The great news is that I have just REDUCED the prices, to make them even better value for money. For example, a 6"x4" print WAS £5, and is now only £2.99!

The Mount Pleasant Hotel, between Doncaster and Bawtry was the venue for Bev & Craig's lovely wedding day last Friday. They had a civil ceremony, followed by drinks and then photographs in the wonderful gardens, which have been designed specifically for weddings, and they look great!

Following the wedding breakfast, we set up our photo booth and everyone had a good giggle!

I was back at the lovely Wentbridge House Hotel on Sunday afternoon with Sophie & Simon, whose wedding I will be shooting in a few weeks.

A pre wedding photo shoot is a great way of finding out what works and what doesn't on the big day...every couple is different and some love the camera, others are a little more work! Fortunately, both Sophie & Simon are great subjects and in no time at all were relaxed and having a giggle in front of the lens!

Last Thursday evening I met up again with Kerry & Kevin, whose wedding I am photographing in a few weeks at Ringwood Hall near Chesterfield.

A pre wedding photo shoot is a great way for the couple to get to know their photographer and vice versa. It is, in effect a practice session for the big day, making the actual wedding photography much easier and more natural. We include a pre wedding photo shoot with every full day booking.

At last, sunshine all day! Lucy and David were married last Saturday at Barlow Church in Derbyshire, followed by a reception at the Peak Edge Hotel at the Red Lion, between Chesterfield & Matlock.....and it was the warmest day of the year so far with almost constant sunshine!

Barlow Church is delightful, a small, intimate place surrounded by lovely Derbyshire countryside and the Peak Edge Hotel excel at weddings, the service is outstanding!

Easter Sunday was a very special day for Joanne & Lee, they were married at what must rate as one of the country's top wedding venues. Chatsworth House in Derbyshire is the family seat of the Duke of Devonshire and is generally regarded as one of England's finest houses!

There was still quite a bit of snow laying around and the temperature struggled to reach 4 degrees, however the sun made an appearance for just long enough for the wedding photographs. Here are a few....
